The NonProfit Times, a leading nonprofit business publication based in Morris Plains, New Jersey, has released its annual Power and Influence Top 50 list, which this year reflects the growing importance of technology and social entrepreneurship.
This year’s list also boasts the P&I debut of twenty nonprofit executives — the largest turnover in the thirteen-year history of the list — one year after eighteen leaders made their debut. New to the Power & Influence Top 50 are Dan Busby, president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability; Cheryl Dorsey, president of the Echoing Green Foundation; Bill Drayton, founder and CEO of Ashoka; Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America; Linda Perryman Evans, president and CEO of the Meadows Foundation; Marc Freedman, founder and CEO of Civic Ventures; Helene D. Gayle, president and CEO of CARE; Wendy Harman, social media manager of the American Red Cross; Benjamin Jealous, president and CEO of the NAACP; Geri Mannion, chair of the Strengthening U.S. Democracy Program at the Carnegie Corporation of New York; Katrina McGhee, senior vice president of global business development and partnerships at Susan G. Komen for the Cure; Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; Steve Nardizzi, executive director of the Wounded Warrior Project; Neil Nicoll, president and CEO of the Y; Miles Rapoport, president of Demos; Ronald B. Richard, president and CEO of the Cleveland Foundation; Adrian Sargeant, professor at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis; Paul Schmitz, CEO of Public Allies; Kelvin H. Taketa, president and CEO of the Hawaii Community Foundation; and Laysha Ward, president of the Target Foundation.
Those on the 2010 list also named to last year’s list include Diana Aviv, president and CEO of Independent Sector; Israel L. Gaither, national commander of the Salvation Army; Brian Gallagher, president and CEO of the United Way Worldwide; Steve Gunderson, president and CEO of the Council on Foundations; Stephen B. Heintz, president of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund; and Sterling Speirn, president and CEO of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
Returning to the list after having fallen off for at least a year are Gary D. Bass, founder and executive director of OMB Watch, and Ray Chambers, founder of the MCJ Amelior Foundation. William C. McGinly, president and CEO of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, is the only nonprofit executive who has appeared in all thirteen editions of the list.
